I.e., see the screenshot for the situation where everything but GIMP itself is already installed: 110M download, 314M installed (for which I by the way applaud Software Manager's developer: it historically didn't use to split up those numbers). I.e., as per attachment - as to size in pixels of which complaints should be directed to Software Manager for being unable to make its window smaller and/or to GIMP for making the screenshot unreadable after scaling it down.īut as to the reported download/install size: I do suppose you know that once you in fact already have the for any given flatpak'ed application prerequisite runtimes installed only said application itself installs additionally. Are AppImages also huge compared to the repository?Ĭode: Select all apt update apt install gimpIt said already the latest version 2.10.14 is installed.īy Software Manager I meant the large, unwieldy and decidedly graphical program Software Manager. Flat pack versions are very big hence I avoid them. I have been using it pretty much exclusively ever since 2.10 was released, and the only time I had a problem with it was a 2.10.16 build (and there were big problems with that GIMP release). What I like about the AppImage is it is bundled with a nice assortment of plug-ins, it has the RAW importers for darktable, and it is easy to roll back to an earlier release if there is a problem. GIMP 2.10.18 is also available as a Snap package.Ī third option is the AppImage. I recall there were issues with the G'MIC plug-in not working. The flatpak has been suggested - I am not a fan, but it is current. The last activity for the PPA appears to be from Feb 2020. Otto has still not updated the PPA to 2.10.18.
